Raspberry Pi, a USB computer for $25

Veteran game developer David Braben has developed an inexpensive mini-computer for students and enthusiasts, called the Raspberry Pi. For now, no real packaging has been shown, and as it stands, the $ 25 Raspberry Pi computer looks like nothing more than a small printed circuit board with a USB and HDMI port -- in between the two, lies an ARM processor.
One HDMI output, one USB input (for keyboard), ARM no board, expansion slot for 12MP camera, runs Ubuntu, aims to sell for £15 to reignite kids' interest in computing. Not quite retro computing but (hopefully)
something that'll inspire a new generation?

Add on a new-gen BigTrack and you've got a high(ish) spec visual computing device with wheels for home robotics experiments, with enough CPU power for some openCV processing...all as Christmas
stocking fillers. w00t. (Emily - I wants :-).

How does the computer work?
Plug in a USB keyboard at one end, and a monitor via an HDMI cable at the other. Just like the kit computers of yesteryear, Braben intends for the Raspberry Pi to become an educational device that encourage tinkering and fosters creativity and interest in the field of electronics and programming.
While we are not too hopeful the device will actually inspire future generations, it will certainly make a lot of us older tech enthusiasts very happy, and warm up our soldering irons. Braben and team are currently working hard to bring out a new prototype that's cheaper and more reliable. Check out the specifications below:
  • CPU: 700MHz ARM11 processor
  • Memory: 128MB SDRAM
  • Standards Supported: OpenGL ES 2.0, 1080p30 H.264 high-profile decode
  • Bundled software: Open software (Ubuntu, Iceweasel, KOffice, Python)
  • Connectivity: Composite and HDMI video output, USB 2.0, SD/MMC/SDIO memory card slot, general-purpose I/O

Sony plans to release the NGP by the end of year and much of that time remaining will be spent concentrating on creating the device`s hardware diagnostic  platform and library of game titles that will be called the Platstation Suite

Live Area - interface for NGP

      Lets watch the official announcement..

From the specifications that Sony has released so far it certainly looks like it will be an interesting portable gaming console.

      HTC Sensation Unleashed

Techiotaku had been away from posting for few days..umm.well let us tell you the truth,we are all college students and thus we have  our own lives, but we can't make our readers unhappy..thus we bring you this..super cool review of the latest Android gig.
HTRC Sensation rely creates sensation around the world. In the three short years it's taken HTC to rise from an unknown manufacturer to market-leading company, we've seen a number of high-end handsets from the brand - and now the HTC Sensation adds dual-core functionality in a sleek package.
       h
What's impressive about the phone when you first pick it up is the size - it's a 4.3-inch screen but the footprint of the phone isn't much bigger than the HTC Incredible S.
The screen is technically the same size as the Desire HD, in that it measures 4.3-inches diagonally, but in reality it's a little smaller thanks to packing in qHD (540x960) resolution, which basically means 16:9 movies will play without any black bars above and below. The unibody sculpting of the device is in keeping with a number of other handsets in the HTC range - it's most reminiscent of the Mozart, with the multiple section feel on the back. The whole rear actually detaches leaving only the battery and the screen together, with the antennas all plugged into the battery cover.

The HTC Sensation weighs a shade under 150g, which is pretty hefty by today's standards given that a number of handsets push more towards the 110-120g level. It's also a little thicker at 11.3mm than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S2 (at 8.7mm) and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (at 8.5mm), but given the rounded edges, it's not much of a problem.
The first thing is the new lock screen - now it's interactive in more ways than before. For example, you can set four applications to launch instantly by simply dragging them down to the lock 'hoop' at the bottom.
There are more interactive lock widgets as well, with the ability to have pictures floating around the screen that you can simply drag down to open, or a weather widget that jumps to the current conditions.
Lets look at the specs now..

Welcome Techiotaku’s this post is dedicated to all those poor people like me who are unable to play games which require a graphic card or a GPU to start with. well let me ask a question ? do you want to play GTA San Andreas or The Matrix:Path of Neo ? well if you have a pc config like i have with Pentium 4 ( 2.4 GHz) and 64 mb intel onboard graphics and 1 GB DDR RAM ,you cant play The Matrix: path of Neo ,so what to do now, when you cant afford to buy a nVIDIA graphic card and still yearned to play such games..well TechiOtaku is going to reveal the secret.

      3D Analyze
It is  a powerful application that allows to play many DirectX based games using video hardware officially unsupported and theoretically unable to run these. If your video card hardware features don't match DirectX based favourite game's minimal system requirements - you can look for those reading on game box and/or game readme.txt file - try to emulate those "moving" your graphics board into minimal category necessary to play it. Following main 3D-Analyze settings to check if you want emulate a DirectX version starting from previous one.It basically emulates the verter shader and decreases pixels in order to fulfill Graphic card requirement.

Nokia X2-01 Qwerty - The LOL Phone

What..? The advertisement starts with this only....the LOL phone. TechiOtaku looks in a good mood, not because of the LOL ,but the phone indeed is very good.
Nokia is used to impress their users by such user friendly,Indian market specific and quality phone with the trust of Nokia.

Well let us talk about the Nokia X2-01 phone now, this QWERTY keypad phone is the successor of the most awaited phone Nokia X2 in the Indian market which had a 5 mp camera, and proved to be huge success

The Nokia X2-01 was launched in November 2010,It looks like Nokia C3 but has Sharp edges made of cheap plastic. I see ,so the Nokia recycle phone campaign is used like this ? no we dont think so..you cant get better than this in the cost of Around Rs. 4000 from such a huge company. The screen is same as Nokia C3 with  QVGA Resolution, which feels good. The Qwerty keypad is also good with dedicated keys for music and camera. It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a rear speaker for quality sound.

Its user interface is same as C3-00 ,but the only problem is it doesn't support multitasking,so you cant play a game while you update your Facebook…that's a disappointment. The social networking apps are also not that much good, but still they complete what they are suppose to do. The camera quality is a downpour, with just VGA camera ,its a big disappointment..also being the so called ‘X’ series phone its audio quality in earphone is also not good. The push mail is a great feature included in it. this Nokia phone falls in a range of Rs. 4000 category with an intense fight with Samsung chat and  cheap Micromax phones ,You can get it at a cost of Rs.3850.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 : Is it so perfect?

Well with the advent of technology it seems that even TechiOtaku can't remain untouched ! That's why the phenomenon is catching us also... Confused? Actually this post is being written from mobile phone , That's why we are so excited... So without any further ado we would like to shed light on the post title .

This is the samsung galaxy tab.. and now we pull the curtains of galaxy tab 2

      Samsung Galaxy Tab 2
well we could have also told you about a duel between apple i pad 2 and galaxy tab 2 or any device of the same genre, but what pulled us to introduce this super cool gadget was its specs and its potential to beat all out there.
Officially known as Samsung galaxy tab 10.1
is the latest in their release with the latest operating system of so popular Android OS v 2.3 (Gingerbread) but it is upgradable to latest v 3.0 (Honeycomb),we found that this was one of the best thing they could do because Samsung being the best company for providing topmost hardware support for the android OS is not so good ,when it comes to upgaradation from one version to another. well lets see what other specs it offers..
It is powered by the powerful NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor, which we think 2 is added just to show that it is dual core processor having  1GHz of processing speed, that didn't disappointed us in any way.

      Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Specifications
OS Android 3.0 Honeycomb (upgradable )
      Display 10.1” ,1024 x800 (WXGA) TFT AMOLED
      Screen,Multi Touch Enabled
Network 3G(HSPA) up to 21 MbPS,EDGE,GPRS,Quad Band GSM
Camera Rear:8.0 Megapixel with LED flash and Autofocus,With Full HD 1080 px Recording
Front: 3.0 mp for video calling
      Audio/Video Video : MPEG 4,H263,H264
Audio :All common formats with 3.5 mm audio jack and  rear speakers
      Connectivity Wireless LAN Wi-Fi 108.11 b/g/n,
      Bluetooth v 3.0,USB Port
Memory 16 GB/32 GB Internal Memory, External memory expandable upto 64 GB,
      1 GB RAM
      Sensors Gyroscope,Digital Compass,Barometer,Accelerometer,proximity sensor
      Battery 6860 mAh
      Other Features Gorilla Glass,Android Market,3 D display,HD playback at 1080 px,TV out Jack,Flash 10.1,Social networking
Well that brings us to the end of specs..which seems to be power packed for such a slim and smart device.
it is very light in hand and slim also, but the disappointment came with the display,no TouchWiz or samsung apps here..but as they say it is super built for honeycomb and provides a total GOOGLE expireince.on the hardware features, the video playback with HD content was super smooth,With Tegra 2 processor it run all apps like streaming water, and with the promise of Honeycomb taking the advantage of screen stretch without loss of any pixel wich samsungs calls as Screen real estate and suports full screen HD support and apps, which seems to outpour other tabs in its genre.
      Here is the video Pick..

Dell XPS is much more than Eye popper

The XPS M1530 is way more eye catching in terms of design than the Inspiron 1520. The barrel hinge, dropdown screen and sloping look of the M1530 is just cool. Second, the XPS M1530 weighs just 5.9 lbs with a standard 6-cell battery and just 6 lbs and 4.6 ounces (6.29 lbs) with its 9-cell battery. The Inspiron 1520 weighs more than 7 lbs with the 6-cell battery. Other benefits of the XPS M1530 notebook include a sleeker slot loading optical drive, touch sensitive light-up buttons, dedicated XPS tech support, media remote control and thinner profile. The XPS M1530 is way more eye catching in terms of design than the Inspiron 1520. The barrel hinge, dropdown screen and sloping look of the M1530 is just cool. The Inspiron 1520 weighs more than 7 lbs with the 6-cell battery. Other benefits of the XPS M1530 notebook include a sleeker slot loading optical drive, touch sensitive light-up buttons, dedicated XPS tech support, media remote control and thinner profile.

The Dell XPS M1530 has the following specifications:

      • 5.4-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) CCFL glossy screen
      • "Crimson" red paint (also available in "Tuxedo" black or "Alpine" white)
      • 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T7500 processor, Santa Rosa chipset (up to 2.4GHz available)
      • 2GB DDR2-667 SDRAM (up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM available)
      • 160GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD (32GB SSD drive available)
      • Slot-loading dual-layer DVD±RW drive
      • NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR3
      • WWAN option for Verizon
      • Ethernet, 802.11a/g/n (Intel 4965), Bluetooth option
      • Integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam
      • HDMI, VGA, S-Video, Firewire/1394, three USB 2.0 ports, integrated
      • media reader (MS, SD, xD), fingerprint reader
      • Media Center remote located in ExpressCard slot
      • Windows Vista Home Premium
      • Dimensions (with 6-cell battery): 14.06" x 10.34" x 0.93" - 1.38"
      • Weight starts at 5.9 pounds with 6-cell battery (6.29 pounds with 9-cell)
      Build and Design
The Dell, is very popular for making its customer happy with the design and performance of products. And XPS M1530 are really fullfilling its tradition. The main difference between M1330 and M1530 is its size. The design and look is mostly the same, the keyboard feels the same, the touch sensitive controls are replicated and for the most part the ports are the same (though you do get an extra USB 2.0 port on the M1530).

      Screen

The M1530 is offered with only a standard 15.4" widescreen XGA (1280 x 800) display, while the XPS M1330 has the option for a thinner and more power efficient LED backlit display. The standard CCFL display is still gorgeously bright and flawless. Plus you get a higher 2.0MP web cam with the standard thicker CCFL screen, whereas with a thinner LED screen only a VGA resolution cam can be fitted. The horizontal viewing angles are really great. But the colors did begin to invert at lower viewing angles when the screen is tilted back.

      Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard on the XPS M1530 is fairly similar to the XPS M1330, with obvious reasons. Its really being pleasure to work on M1530 laptop. The keyboard is firm with virtually no flex and the keys have excellent travel and cushion. The touchpad works well enough, though it's seems a little on the small side given the size of the notebook. The mouse buttons have excellent travel and cushion, though I did feel like they made a bit too much of a "clicking" sound when pressed. The good news with the touchpad is that it's responsive, has dedicated scroll areas and the textured feel is good. A series of touch-sensitive media buttons with blue LED backlights are located above.

While this is certainly the hottest 15.4" notebook available from Dell, but the user who have worked at M1330 doesn't admire its designing features. While issues like a noisy slot-loading drive, noisy hard drive, and limited screen options will make some demanding buyers look elsewhere, the M1530 is an excellent alternative to HP's popular dv6500t notebook in the same price range.

      Pros
      • Reasonable battery life
      • Nice keyboard, touchpad and media buttons
      • Thin and light

      Cons

      • Slot-loading drive is loud during loading and ejecting
      • Hard drive noise is magnified by the case/mount design
      • Limited screen options at the time of this writing
      • There are only three UPS ports

The New era of USB 3.0

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group announced on 17 November 2008 that version 3.0 of the specification had been completed and had made the transition to the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the managing body of USB specifications. This move effectively opened the specification to hardware developers for implementation in future products. The first USB 3.0 consumer products were announced and shipped by Buffalo Technology in November 2009, while the first certified USB 3.0 consumer products were announced 5 January 2010, at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including two motherboards by ASUS and Gigabyte Technology Manufacturers of USB 3.0 host controllers include, but are not limited to, Renesas/NEC Electronics, Fresco Logic, Asmedia, Etron, VIA Labs and Texas Instruments. As of November 2010, Renesas is the only company to have passed USB-IF certification, although motherboards for Intel's Sandy Bridge processors have been seen with Asmedia and Etron host controllers. On October 28, 2010 Hewlett-Packard released the HP Envy 17 3D featuring a Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller several months before some of their competitors. AMD is working with Renesas to add its USB 3.0 implementation into its chipsets for its 2011 platforms. At CES2011 Toshiba unveiled a laptop called "Toshiba Qosmio X500" that included USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0, and a new series of Sony VAIO laptops that will include USB 3.0. The new models in the Dell XPS series are to include USB 3.0 There are already a few USB 3.0 devices available. To test them, Techiotaku used a Lenovo ThinkPad W510 with USB 3.0 built in. I tried out a variety of new devices, including the Buffalo DriveStation USB 3.0 HD-HXU3 external hard drive; a StarTech SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station in combination with my current Western Digital WD Caviar Blue external drive; and a Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 USB 3.0 Performance Kit, a portable hard drive that includes its software on a USB 3.0 ExpressCard.

      What's new in USB 3.0?
Unlike the change from USB 1.0 to USB 2.0, USB 3.0 brings actual physical differences to the connectors. The flat USB Type A plug (that goes into the computer) looks the same, but inside is an extra set of connectors; the edge of the plug is colored blue to indicate that it's USB 3.0.

On the other end of the cable, the Type B plug (that goes into the USB device) actually looks different -- it has an extra set of connectors, so it looks a bit like a USB plug that's been crimped a little ways down one end. There's also a new Micro Type B plug that has all its connectors laid out horizontally.

The USB 3.0 plug has an extra set of connectors.
As a result, you won't be able to fit a USB 3.0 cable into a USB 2.0 device. However, you will be able to plug USB 3.0 devices -- and cables -- into your current computer; you just won't get the speed advantage. (Note: To get the most out of USB 3.0, the cable needs to be less than about 9 feet long, down from the USB 2.0 16-foot limit.)

The reason for the new connector is that the USB 3.0 cable contains nine wires (four more than a USB 2.0 cable); eight carry data and one is used as a ground. Despite the increase in wires, however, the cables should be no thicker than those used by USB 2.0. There will be a big difference in performance, however. USB 2.0 is like a single-lane country road that needs to handle the morning-commute traffic in and out of L.A. There are jams and slowdowns when too much data is going back and forth. With nine wires available, USB 3.0 has an additional two lanes of traffic in each direction to smooth the flow between the computer and the device.
